A Brief About Annie Jerrue

Annie Jerrue is a passionate advocate for community development and women’s rights, hailing from one of the forest communities in River Cess, Liberia. With a strong dedication to improving the lives of her fellow community members, particularly women and children, Annie has emerged as a prominent figure in the governance of natural resources and land management.

Community Involvement

Annie has always actively encouraged and mobilized women to engage in community development initiatives; at the same time advocating for the inclusion of women in decision-making processes related to natural resource governance.

At the Community Forestry Development Committee

Annie started serving on the Community Forestry Development Committee (CFDC), representing cluster of her communities since 2015. She was one of the two only elected as women among the ten members of the CFDC in the Forest Management Contract Area C, representing the interests of women and children diligently.

In 2023, (after serving as member in the CFDC), she was overwhelmingly elected as Chairpersons of the CFDC, making her the only female chairperson among the 23 CFDC chairpersons across Liberia.

National Union of Community Forestry Development Committees (NUCFDC)

At the NUCFDCs, Annie in 2015 was elected as Vice President of Operations, making her the third-in-command within the leadership structure of this umbrella organization representing 23 CFDCs, a position she served diligently up to 2024.

In 2024 December, at the NUCFDCs 15th Years, 7th General Assembly, and 5th democratic national leadership elections, Annie was elected as the National President, and currently she is the President-elect of the NUCFDC, poised to become the first female president since its establishment 16 years ago.

Under her leadership, the elected leadership of the NUCFDCs boasts the highest number of females, with 5 out of 8 positions held by women.

Annie’s Vision for the NUCFDC

  1. Improved Governance: Her leadership plans to enhance governance by adopting key policies that strengthen the governance framework of the NUCFDCs.
  • Capacity Building: Aims to increase capacity building initiatives, particularly for women in leadership and community roles.
  • Advocacy: As a strong advocate, Annie prioritizes constructive engagement with the Government of Liberia and key partners to ensure communities benefit from forests, land, and other natural resources.
  • Gender Mainstreaming: Committed to training and involving more women in community decision-making, using her own journey as inspiration for others.
  • Support: Recognizes the need for support, especially during a time of limited active logging companies. Achieving her goals will require funding and capacity-building support.

Induction Ceremony

Annie’s induction as the first female president of the NUCFDCs is scheduled for February 1, 2025, in Cesto City, River Cess County, and it will begin with review and adoption of major governance policies, the NUCFDCs Annual Budget and Work Plan.
